Caterpillar beat expectations on both the top and bottom line in the second fiscal quarter of 2026, based on preliminary results reported Aug. 4. Revenue rose 24% to about $20.5 billion, up from about $16.6 billion a year ago, and came in 6.2% above the $19.34 billion consensus, while net income climbed 64.9% to about $3.6 billion from about $2.2 billion a year ago. EPS reached $8.17 versus the $6.22 estimate, about +31%, and was up from $4.72 in the prior-year period. Gross margin held near 38% and operating margin was around 21%, with operating income at about $4.3 billion. Operating cash flow was about $4.4 billion, Caterpillar repurchased about $4.5 billion of stock, and it paid about $1.3 billion in dividends. For the next period, consensus for EPS of $6.58 on revenue of $19.73 billion.
