Airtel Money launches London IPO
Airtel Money has begun trading on the London Stock Exchange after setting its initial public offering offer price at £1.96 per share. At this price, the company is valued at about £5.3 billion on admission, making the flotation one of the largest recent listings in the UK market. The shares trade under the ticker symbol AMC.
The transaction is structured as an offer for sale of existing shares rather than a capital-raising issuance. Minority shareholders are selling 270,000,000 existing shares, with up to a further 27,000,000 shares available under an overallotment option. If the overallotment is exercised in full, the total offer size is expected to be about £582 million, representing approximately 11% of Airtel Money’s share capital at admission.
Because the flotation is a secondary sale, the gross proceeds from the IPO will go to the selling shareholders instead of the company. Airtel Money’s parent interests, including Bharti/Airtel Africa, will retain a significant stake and are described as remaining long-term strategic shareholders following the listing.
Trading timetable and first-day performance
Conditional dealings in Airtel Money shares commenced at 8:00 a.m. on 9 October 2026 on the London Stock Exchange. Admission to the Official List and the start of unconditional trading are expected at 8:00 a.m. on 14 October 2026, subject to the usual conditions. During this conditional period, trading is limited to investors allocated stock in the offer.
On the first day of conditional dealings, the shares opened above the offer price. Early trading saw the stock rise to about £2 per share before easing back toward the £1.96 placement level. This initial price action provided an early indication of investor appetite around the IPO valuation.
Cornerstone commitment and syndicate
As part of the offering, the International Finance Corporation has acted as a cornerstone investor. It was allocated 34,285,714 shares in the offer, representing an aggregate consideration of £67.2 million. This pre-committed participation formed a significant component of demand for the bookbuild.
The IPO is backed by a large underwriting syndicate. Citigroup (C) is acting as sole sponsor and lead left global coordinator for the transaction. Bank of America (BAC), Barclays (BARC.L), Goldman Sachs (GS) and JPMorgan (JPM) are serving as joint global coordinators and joint bookrunners, supported by a broader group of joint bookrunners and co-bookrunners to distribute the shares to institutional investors.
Key Takeaways
- 01The IPO establishes a public market valuation of roughly £5.3 billion for Airtel Money without diluting the company through new share issuance.
- 02Roughly one‑tenth of the company’s equity is being floated, creating a meaningful free float while maintaining a substantial strategic stake for existing core shareholders.
- 03Early trading slightly above the offer price suggests the valuation is being tested within a narrow range close to the IPO level rather than experiencing extreme volatility.
