Data center servers symbolize BIDU Q2 2026 results and AI pivot amid softer ads and Hong Kong listing plan

Key Points

  • 01Baidu (BIDU) Q2 2026 revenue fell to RMB 31.3 billion, down 4% year on year
  • 02Core AI-powered Business generated RMB 12.5 billion, about half of general business
  • 03Online Marketing Services revenue dropped 19% year on year to RMB 13.1 billion
  • 04Baidu (BIDU) advances plans for a dual-primary listing in Hong Kong in 2026

Revenue and profit trends in Q2 2026

Baidu (BIDU) posted total revenue of RMB 31.3 billion (US$4.62 billion) for the second quarter of 2026, representing a 2% decline from the previous quarter and a 4% decrease compared with the same period a year earlier. Revenue from Baidu General Business was RMB 25.2 billion, down 3% quarter on quarter and 4% year on year, while video streaming unit iQIYI contributed RMB 6.3 billion, up 1% sequentially but down 5% year on year.

Profitability remained positive despite the revenue decline. Operating income reached RMB 3.0 billion, yielding a 10% operating margin, while non-GAAP operating income was RMB 3.8 billion with a 12% non-GAAP operating margin. Net income attributable to Baidu was RMB 2.3 billion (US$342 million), with diluted earnings per ADS of RMB 5.74 (US$0.85). On a non-GAAP basis, net income attributable to Baidu was RMB 2.6 billion (US$379 million), and non-GAAP diluted earnings per ADS was RMB 7.22.

Operating cash flow remained a support for the business, totaling RMB 3.4 billion in the quarter and staying positive for a fourth consecutive period.

Growth in Core AI-powered Business

Baidu emphasized the performance of its Core AI-powered Business, which generated revenue of RMB 12.5 billion in the second quarter of 2026. This segment continued to account for about half of Baidu General Business revenue, underscoring the company’s strategic focus on AI-related activities.

Within this segment, AI Cloud Infrastructure revenue reached RMB 7.3 billion, rising 50% year on year. GPU Cloud, a subset of AI Cloud Infrastructure, recorded particularly rapid expansion, with revenue increasing 283% year on year. AI Applications contributed RMB 2.5 billion in revenue, up 3% compared with the prior-year quarter, while AI-native marketing services delivered RMB 2.6 billion, remaining approximately flat year on year.

User engagement on Baidu’s main platform also remained significant, with Baidu App monthly active users reaching 644 million in June 2026. In the same month, Baidu launched an enterprise edition of its DuMate product, adding to its portfolio of AI-focused offerings for business customers.

Pressure on online marketing and market reaction

Legacy advertising activities faced notable headwinds in the quarter. Online Marketing Services revenue declined to RMB 13.1 billion, down 19% year on year, weighing on Baidu General Business even as AI-related lines expanded. The shift in revenue mix reflects the company’s ongoing pivot toward AI and cloud services while traditional marketing remains under pressure.

Independent market coverage stated that Baidu’s second-quarter revenue came in below Wall Street estimates. Following the release of the results, U.S.-listed shares were reported to have fallen in premarket trading, with the move described as around a 3.5% decline. These reactions highlighted investor sensitivity to both the revenue shortfall and the pace at which AI growth can offset declines in older segments.

Progress toward a dual-primary Hong Kong listing

Alongside its financial results, Baidu detailed its progress on a planned conversion to a dual-primary listing in Hong Kong. In July 2026 the company submitted its application for the Primary Conversion and received acknowledgement from the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

Baidu plans to convene an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders on August 26, 2026 to seek approval for matters related to the conversion. The company expects the Primary Conversion to become effective within this year, subject to shareholder approval and final approval from the exchange. A dual-primary listing would complement Baidu’s existing listing structure while the business continues to develop its AI-focused operations.

Key Takeaways

  • 01Baidu is balancing declining group revenue and advertising weakness against expanding AI-driven segments, with Core AI now representing about half of general business revenue.
  • 02Strong growth in AI Cloud Infrastructure and GPU Cloud shows the fastest-growing parts of Baidu’s portfolio are in infrastructure and compute services rather than traditional marketing.
  • 03The planned dual-primary Hong Kong listing signals an effort to broaden Baidu’s capital market presence as it finances and executes its transition toward AI-centric operations.
