Key Points

  • 01Siemens Healthineers (SHLd) will rebrand as Healthineers (SHLd) in a three-year transition starting 2027
  • 02Diagnostics business to be carved out as Olyrian Diagnostics by mid-2028
  • 03Diagnostics unit posted a 4.2% comparable revenue decline in the latest quarter
  • 04Company reported €23.6bn revenue and plans €400m in additional diagnostics savings

Healthineers name to replace Siemens Healthineers

Siemens Healthineers plans to drop "Siemens" from its name and operate simply as Healthineers, in a brand evolution aligned with a broader restructuring of the group. The transition to the new identity is expected to begin in 2027 and run over a three-year migration period across the organization. The change was announced on November 5, 2026 and is subject to shareholder approval at the company’s Annual Shareholders’ Meeting in February 2027. It will coincide with Siemens AG (SIEd)’s plan to deconsolidate the medical technology business through a spin-off of its stake in Siemens Healthineers.

CEO Bernd Montag describes the move as a natural progression for a business that has developed its own identity and capabilities over the past decade. Siemens AG CEO Roland Busch characterizes the separation as a logical next step that sharpens Siemens’ profile. Under the planned arrangement, Healthineers will pay Siemens 300 million euros for the three-year brand transition phase as it moves away from the Siemens name.

Carve-out of Olyrian Diagnostics

Alongside the corporate rebrand, Siemens Healthineers has started carving out its in vitro diagnostics business as a standalone company under the new name Olyrian Diagnostics. The transition is intended to be completed by mid-2028, with the Olyrian brand rolled out in stages while the business remains part of Healthineers during the transition period. Executives say the carve-out is being executed with a clear intention to separate and to position diagnostics as a market-leading in vitro pure play. The company has laid groundwork for the move over the past year, after earlier giving the diagnostics unit its own strategy and later revealing the planned carve-out.

Olyrian Diagnostics will focus on laboratory and point-of-care testing, supporting healthcare professionals from initial testing and clinical interpretation through to population health management. The business has an extensive international footprint and manufactures more than 16 billion tests annually, with an assay portfolio covering nearly all major disease areas. Clients include laboratory providers such as Quest Diagnostics (DGX), which recently extended its contract by five years. Management expects a distinct name and brand to give the diagnostics business a clearer purpose and market position as one of the largest standalone diagnostics-focused companies.

Financial performance and diagnostics headwinds

The restructuring comes as Siemens Healthineers reports mixed performance across its business units. For the financial year ending September 30, 2026, the company generated approximately €23.6 billion in revenue, with comparable revenue growth of 4.0% for the year and 5.9% in the fourth quarter. Imaging delivered 10.0% comparable revenue growth in the fourth quarter and Precision Therapy grew 4.8%, underscoring their role as key growth engines. By contrast, the diagnostics business recorded a 4.2% comparable revenue decline in the quarter and is described as the weakest segment, with pressure particularly in China due to structural market rebasing and domestic competition.

Diagnostics had a quarterly margin of 5.4%, down from 7.5% a year earlier.

Strategic focus after separation

Siemens Healthineers views the rebrand and carve-out as ways to sharpen its overall portfolio and align its structure with longer-term ambitions. The company expects the diagnostics separation to allow more focused capital allocation and to give the diagnostics unit greater flexibility to leverage its strengths in lab solutions and point-of-care testing. Management frames the initiatives as steps to enhance corporate clarity as the business moves into a new phase with a different shareholder structure. The dual transitions of renaming the parent group and creating Olyrian Diagnostics are scheduled to unfold in parallel over the next several years.

Key Takeaways

  • 01Siemens Healthineers (SHLd) is restructuring both its brand and portfolio, with the Healthineers name and Olyrian Diagnostics spin-off advancing on synchronized timelines.
  • 02Diagnostics’ weaker growth profile and margin pressure are central drivers of the carve-out, while imaging and precision therapy continue to underpin group expansion.
  • 03Cost savings and mitigation of stranded costs are integral to supporting the separation and deconsolidation through 2028.
