Strong quarterly performance in Q2 2026

Caterpillar (CAT) reported total consolidated sales and revenues of $20,543 million for the three months ended June 30, 2026. Sales of Machinery, Power & Energy were $19,581 million in the second quarter of 2026, reflecting robust demand across the company’s core operations.

Operating profit for the second quarter of 2026 was $4,295 million, an increase of $1,435 million, or 50%, compared with $2,860 million in the second quarter of 2025. Profit of consolidated and affiliated companies totaled $3,593 million for the same period, underscoring broad-based profit growth.

Profit per common share for the quarter was $7.80 on a basic basis and $7.77 on a diluted basis. These earnings figures highlight the impact of higher sales and improved profitability on shareholder returns in the period.

Power & Energy segment leads growth

The Power & Energy segment was a key driver of Caterpillar (CAT)’s second-quarter performance. Power & Energy total sales were $8,238 million in the second quarter of 2026, an increase of $1,201 million, or 17%, compared with the second quarter of 2025.

The increase in Power & Energy sales was primarily attributed to higher sales volume, favorable price realization and higher inter-segment sales. These factors combined to lift both revenue and profitability within the segment.

Power & Energy’s segment profit reached $2,027 million in the second quarter of 2026, an increase of $473 million, or 30%, compared with $1,554 million in the second quarter of 2025. The rise in segment profit mirrored the strength in demand and pricing for the segment’s products and services.

Data center demand boosts power generation

Within Power & Energy, Power Generation sales increased in large reciprocating engines and in turbines and turbine-related services. This growth was concentrated in data center applications, which represented the primary end market for these products during the quarter.

Higher demand from data centers supported both equipment sales and related services in Power Generation. This end-market strength contributed meaningfully to the overall increase in Power & Energy sales and segment profit in the second quarter of 2026.

Key Takeaways

  • 01Caterpillar’s Q2 2026 results show significant year-over-year profit expansion, supported by both higher volume and pricing.
  • 02Power & Energy played a central role in the quarter, with double-digit growth in sales and segment profit enhancing the company’s earnings profile.
  • 03Rising power needs from data center applications provided a key demand source for large engines and turbines, reinforcing the strategic importance of power solutions in Caterpillar’s portfolio.
