Geopolitical tensions around Iran and related moves in crude prices are creating only secondary ripples at the index level, as long as they do not threaten global growth or funding conditions. In contrast, quarterly guidance and product-cycle news from these mega-cap platforms routinely translate into outsized shifts in index futures and day-to-day market direction.

Historical episodes such as the late-1990s tech bubble, the 2014-2016 oil collapse and the post-2020 FAANG and AI concentration illustrate how a single sector can dominate index behavior once its weight and earnings share pass critical thresholds. The current regime fits that pattern, with technology sector leadership reducing the relative market impact of traditional macro drivers like oil and Middle East risk trades.
