Insurance headquarters building symbolizing higher H1 2026 profit and dividend for AV.UL investors

Key Points

  • 01Aviva’s H1 2026 operating profit rose 24% to £1,326m
  • 02Direct Line integration is advancing with £100m cost synergies
  • 03Wealth net flows jumped 32% to £7.6bn; AUM reached £261bn
  • 04Interim dividend increased to 14.0p despite lower IFRS profit

Strong first-half operating performance

For the six months to 30 June 2026, Aviva reported group operating profit of £1,326m, representing a 24% increase compared with the same period a year earlier. The improvement reflects stronger group-wide performance, including better results in general insurance and contributions from recently acquired businesses.

Cash remittances, representing cash returned to the group from its businesses, rose 47% to £1,498m over the period. This higher cash generation supported decisions on capital allocation, including dividend payments.

Progress on Direct Line integration and synergies

Aviva stated that the integration of Direct Line is advancing and contributing to improved profitability within the combined general insurance operations. The group reported growth in sales via price-comparison websites, highlighting a key distribution channel for the integrated business.

The company has already delivered around £100m of annualised cost synergies from the Direct Line integration. It is targeting approximately £225m of total cost synergies and more than £350m of remaining capital synergies by the end of 2026, underlining the scale of the planned efficiency gains.

Wealth management growth and assets under management

Aviva’s wealth-management business recorded a 32% increase in net flows, reaching £7.6bn in the first half of 2026. This reflects stronger demand for its savings and investment propositions across customer segments.

Assets under management in the wealth business rose to £261bn, supported by the higher net inflows. The combination of increased flows and a larger asset base positions the wealth segment as an important contributor to future earnings.

Dividend increase and statutory profit movement

Aviva raised its interim dividend by 7% to 14.0 pence per share for the period. The dividend increase follows the growth in operating profit and cash remittances and reflects the group’s current capital position.

Despite the stronger operating performance, statutory IFRS profit fell to £418m from £819m a year earlier. The decline was attributed to adverse investment variances and non-operating charges, including integration and restructuring costs linked to ongoing transformation initiatives.

Key Takeaways

  • 01Aviva is delivering higher operating earnings and cash generation while absorbing integration and restructuring costs at the statutory profit level.
  • 02The Direct Line integration is already generating measurable cost synergies, with larger cost and capital benefits targeted through 2026.
  • 03Wealth-management growth in flows and assets under management is strengthening Aviva’s mix toward capital-light, fee-based business lines.
