Bank Indonesia Governor Warjiyo Resigns

Perry Warjiyo has submitted his resignation as Governor of Bank Indonesia, and the government has stated that it has received and accepted the resignation. The move marks a significant change at the helm of the central bank, which is responsible for monetary policy, currency stability, and the stability of the financial system in Indonesia.

The Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, said that President Prabowo Subianto received Perry Warjiyo’s resignation letter on Sunday, 26 July 2026. This confirms the timing of the formal notification to the presidency and frames the start of the transition process at the central bank.

Under the law governing Bank Indonesia, when the governor’s position becomes vacant, the Senior Deputy Governor automatically assumes the role of acting governor. In this case, Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti is designated to serve as acting Governor, ensuring that there is no gap in leadership.

Bank Indonesia’s Board of Governors held a meeting on 26 July 2026. During that meeting, the Board appointed Destry Damayanti as acting Governor (Pejabat Gubernur Sementara), formalising her role in overseeing the central bank’s day-to-day functions during the transition period.

The government has indicated that it will proceed with the necessary administrative procedures following Perry Warjiyo’s resignation. These steps include issuing a Presidential Decree (Keputusan Presiden, or Keppres) that will formally accept and honourably dismiss him from the post of governor.

Completion of these procedures will provide legal confirmation of the change in leadership and align the transition with the requirements set out in the law regulating Bank Indonesia. It will also clarify the institutional status of the outgoing governor and the acting governor.

With Destry Damayanti stepping in as acting Governor under an automatic legal mechanism and a Board of Governors decision, the leadership of Bank Indonesia remains formally in place despite the resignation. This framework is designed to maintain the central bank’s ability to carry out its mandates without interruption.

Bank Indonesia continues to be responsible for maintaining stability in the national currency, overseeing the payment system, and supporting overall financial stability. The appointment of an acting governor under existing law provides a structured path for the institution to operate while the government completes the formal process related to the governorship.
