Foxconn Q2 profit jumps on AI demand

Foxconn reported a 35% increase in second-quarter net profit to 59.97 billion Taiwan dollars, equivalent to about 1.86 billion U.S. dollars. The result exceeded analyst estimates of 58.8 billion Taiwan dollars, marking a stronger-than-expected quarter for the Taiwanese contract electronics maker.

The profit performance highlights the company’s role as a key supplier to major technology firms and its exposure to fast-growing areas of the hardware market. Foxconn is a major partner in the buildout of artificial intelligence infrastructure, which has become an increasingly important driver of its earnings.

While net profit increased sharply, Foxconn’s profitability at the gross level softened compared with a year earlier. Gross profit margin for the second quarter was 6.12%, down from 6.33% in the same period a year ago.

The combination of higher profits and lower margins suggests that growth in AI-related and other production volumes outpaced the company’s ability to sustain prior margin levels. This indicates that scale and product mix, rather than margin expansion, were the primary contributors to the quarter’s profit growth.

Foxconn identified AI infrastructure as a central factor behind its recent advance, reflecting strong demand for servers and related hardware used in data centers. The company is a major partner to Nvidia (NVDA), a leading provider of AI chips, positioning Foxconn at the heart of ongoing investment in AI computing capacity.

Looking ahead, Foxconn expects computing products to drive revenues in the third quarter, underscoring the continuing importance of high-performance hardware and data center equipment to its business. The company also forecast that smart consumer electronics should see significant revenue growth in 2026, signaling expectations for renewed momentum in that segment over the medium term.

Despite the profit beat and positive commentary on AI-driven growth, the immediate market reaction was subdued. Shares in Foxconn were about 1.1% lower after the company released its second-quarter results.

The share move indicates that investors balanced the strong earnings and AI-related prospects against ongoing margin pressure and the time frame for anticipated growth in smart consumer electronics. The results underline how closely market participants are tracking both Foxconn’s exposure to AI infrastructure and its overall profitability trends.
