ING finalises €1 billion buyback

ING has completed its share buyback programme with a total spend of €1 billion, reaching the maximum amount available under the plan. The bank repurchased 34,954,008 ordinary shares at an effective average price of €28.61 per share. The programme, which was announced on 30 April 2026, has now been fully executed and brought to a close.

As part of the final phase of the programme, purchases continued through 23 October 2026. During this last week, ING bought back 1,243,203 shares at an average price of €28.97 per share. These final transactions contributed to the completion of the overall €1 billion buyback allocation.

Details of repurchased shares and pricing

Across the duration of the buyback, ING acquired its own shares on the market at an average price of €28.63, with an effective average repurchase price of €28.61 when all costs are taken into account. In total, the bank bought back 34,954,008 ordinary shares.

The execution of the programme involved regular share purchases, culminating in the final-week volume of more than 1.24 million shares. The effective pricing metrics indicate that ING completed the buyback slightly below the most recent closing price of its shares, as observed at the end of the trading day prior to the announcement of completion.

Market context

ING shares most recently closed at €29.04. This closing level compares with the effective average buyback price of €28.61, providing context for where the market valued the stock at the end of the programme.

By exhausting the full €1 billion authorisation and retiring 34,954,008 shares, the completion of the buyback marks the end of the capital return initiative announced earlier in the year. The transaction confirms ING’s execution of the previously communicated programme size.

Key Takeaways

  • 01ING fully used the €1 billion authorised for its share buyback, signalling the completion of the capital return plan announced in April 2026.
  • 02The bank repurchased 34,954,008 shares at an effective average price slightly below the latest closing share price of €29.04.
  • 03With the programme now concluded, the outstanding share count is reduced.
