Paramount Skydance seals Warner Bros. Discovery deal

Paramount Skydance has completed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery in a transaction reported at roughly $110 billion on October 6, 2026. The combination brings together two of the largest Hollywood studios and extensive television and streaming operations into a single, enlarged media group.

The merged company is being rebranded as Skydance Corporation. Its portfolio now spans a broad range of entertainment properties and channels that reach global film, television, and streaming audiences.

The transaction follows months of legal disputes and criticism focused on potential cuts and consolidation and their possible impact on competition and consumers. With closing now completed, attention is shifting to how the enlarged group will be treated by regulators in key international markets.

Expanded global media footprint

The merger joins well known networks and brands, including HBO, CBS, Nickelodeon, Showtime, Comedy Central, DC Studios and Food Network. It also consolidates a wide range of high profile film and television franchises under one corporate roof.

Paramount Skydance adds ownership of franchises such as Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and The Lord of the Rings to its existing catalogue, which includes Indiana Jones, Mission: Impossible and Shrek. The combination significantly broadens the intellectual property library available to the new Skydance Corporation.

These assets underpin the group’s position in the global market for streaming and traditional broadcasting. The enlarged portfolio is expected to shape offerings for millions of viewers across multiple platforms.

Poland initiates review of TVN ownership

Following completion of the global deal, Poland’s Ministry of State Assets announced it will review the takeover as it relates to indirect control of TVN S.A., a major Polish broadcaster previously owned by Warner Bros. Discovery. The ministry stated that the new owner is required to notify it of the change in control.

Once the notification is submitted, an administrative procedure will begin that can last for up to 90 days. The review is aimed at assessing whether the transaction could affect security or public order in Poland, given TVN’s role in the local media market.

Possible outcomes of the process include a finding that there are no obstacles to exercising shareholder rights, or a decision that exercising the rights attached to TVN shares is inadmissible. In the latter case, the minister may order the sale of shares within a specified period.

State Assets Minister Wojciech Balczun described the review as a purely administrative procedure and said the government would not politicize the matter. The statement underscores that, while scrutiny of the TVN stake will proceed, authorities present it as a standard application of domestic screening rules to an international media merger.

Key Takeaways

  • 01The closure of the roughly $110bn Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery deal immediately triggers country level reviews in sensitive media markets.
  • 02Poland’s 90 day administrative process over TVN S.A. introduces a defined but potentially consequential window for changes to local ownership rights.
  • 03Potential remedies in Poland range from full acceptance of the new structure to limits on exercising shareholder rights or an ordered sale of TVN shares.
  • 04The Polish minister’s stress on a non politicized, administrative approach signals an effort to separate technical screening from broader political debate over media control.
  • 05The scale of the combined Skydance Corporation underscores why national regulators are closely examining its impact on competition, security and public order.
