Unbranded luxury sports car near glass offices illustrating profit rebound and 2026 outlook for the auto maker

Key Points

  • 01Porsche’s nine‑month operating profit rose to €1.74 billion with a 6.9% operating margin
  • 02Vehicle deliveries fell 16% to 178,532 despite the profit recovery
  • 03Automotive net cashflow climbed to €2.5 billion, an 11.3% margin
  • 04Porsche reaffirmed its 2026 outlook, including BEV and margin targets

Profit rebound underpins reaffirmed 2026 guidance

Porsche reported a strong recovery in profitability for the first nine months of 2026 and confirmed its full‑year outlook, even as volumes declined. The sports car maker generated operating profit of €1.74 billion on sales revenue of €25.28 billion, resulting in an operating return on sales of 6.9%. Guidance for the Automotive net cashflow margin, which had been raised in September following the sale of stakes in Bugatti Rimac and the Rimac Group, was maintained at 5.5% to 7.5%.

The company also kept its targets for an Automotive EBITDA margin of 15% to 17% and a battery‑electric vehicle share of deliveries between 24% and 26% for the full year. Finance chief Jochen Breckner described Porsche as financially robust and confirmed guidance for 2026, framing the latest results as consistent with the company’s longer‑term financial ambitions.

Turnaround progress and impact of lower restructuring costs

The profit rebound marks an early test of CEO Michael Leiters’ turnaround plan, launched after he joined at the start of the year to correct Porsche’s course. The Group’s operating return on sales rose to 6.9% in the first nine months from 0.2% in the same period a year earlier. A key driver was the sharp reduction in strategic realignment and restructuring costs, which declined to about €500 million from €2.7 billion in the prior‑year period. Automotive EBITDA margin improved to 17.3%, compared with 11.9% a year earlier.

Management highlighted that despite lower volumes, earnings were supported by a higher proportion of high‑margin models and positive pricing and product‑mix effects. Leiters’ plan focuses on restoring profitability with more customisation and exclusive higher‑margin vehicles, while downsizing operations and retreating from weaker positions, including in China.

Volumes decline amid challenging China market

While profit and margins improved, Porsche’s volumes weakened. Deliveries to customers in the first nine months fell 16% to 178,532 vehicles from 212,509 a year earlier. Sales revenue decreased to €25.28 billion from €26.86 billion, a smaller drop than the decline in vehicle volumes, again reflecting price and mix effects. North America remained the brand’s largest sales region, with 56,088 vehicles delivered.

Porsche pointed to a challenging market environment in China, where it is pursuing a “Value over Volume” approach rather than chasing unit growth. Battery‑electric vehicles accounted for 21.7% of deliveries, compared with 23.1% a year earlier, when Macan EV sales were particularly strong. The company continues to target a higher BEV share for the full year, in line with its 24% to 26% guidance range.

Cashflow strength and balance sheet resilience

Cash generation strengthened alongside the profit recovery. Automotive net cashflow rose to €2.5 billion in the first nine months of 2026, giving a net cashflow margin of 11.3%, up from 5.6% a year earlier. Net liquidity increased to €8.23 billion, underscoring what the company described as financial resilience. The Bugatti Rimac stake sale generated a gain of €593 million and lifted the group’s financial result, with most of the related cash inflow included in Automotive net cashflow.

Even after these effects, management expects an Automotive net cashflow margin of 5.5% to 7.5% for 2026, aligned with its broader profitability and electrification targets.

Key Takeaways

  • 01Porsche is delivering higher profit and margins despite lower volumes, supported by reduced restructuring costs and a richer product mix.
  • 02Strong Automotive net cashflow and higher net liquidity give the company room to fund its strategy and absorb one‑off charges.
  • 03Management is sticking to its 2026 financial and electrification targets, signalling confidence in the turnaround plan amid a difficult China market.
