Range Rover debuts first fully electric model

Range Rover has launched its first fully electric production vehicle, the Range Rover Electric, marking a key milestone in Jaguar Land Rover’s shift toward electrified products. The new model extends the existing Range Rover line into the battery‑electric segment while aiming to retain the brand’s established positioning in the luxury SUV market.

The launch comes after a delay of about a year to the planned introduction and follows a period of operational pressure for JLR, including supply‑chain issues, a cyber attack and a decline in quarterly profits linked to a fire at a supplier. Against this backdrop, the new model is presented as a significant step in the company’s product and technology transformation.

Production of the Range Rover Electric is being concentrated at JLR’s Solihull manufacturing plant in the West Midlands. To support the move into high‑volume electric vehicle production, JLR has invested in upgrading facilities across its regional sites.

Battery packs and electric drive units for the vehicle are being produced at the Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton. This integrated approach is designed to secure core EV components within the company’s own manufacturing network.

As part of the electrification drive, JLR reports that it has up‑skilled around 10,500 workers across its West Midlands operations. This includes training roughly 9,000 employees at Solihull and a further 1,500 staff across other regional sites to work with EV platforms, battery systems and associated production processes.

The Range Rover Electric is built around a double‑stacked 118.5 kWh battery pack using an 800‑volt electrical architecture. This configuration supports DC fast charging at up to 350 kW, positioning the vehicle among the faster‑charging models in the premium EV segment.

Reported range figures include a WLTP driving range of up to 598 km, with a quoted real‑world range of up to 535 km. These figures place the model in the upper band of long‑range electric SUVs, aligning with its positioning as a long‑distance luxury vehicle.

The electric powertrain delivers about 405 kW of system output, equivalent to roughly 550 PS, and 850 Nm of torque. This enables a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of around 4.5 seconds, indicating performance comparable to high‑end combustion‑engine variants within the Range Rover line.

Order books for the Range Rover Electric are open in multiple markets, signaling the start of a phased global rollout. While detailed delivery timing has not been specified, the company is positioning the model as a flagship offering within its electrified portfolio.

Reported starting prices for the vehicle are about £154,070 in the UK and roughly $138,000 in the US. In Australia, market reports list starting prices around A$317,718, reflecting the vehicle’s placement in the upper tier of the luxury EV segment.

The combination of high pricing, extensive technical specifications and a dedicated manufacturing and supply footprint suggests that the Range Rover Electric is intended as a core product in JLR’s transition toward electrification, rather than a low‑volume niche model.
