Samsung’s $1 billion commitment to Helix
Samsung Group companies have agreed to invest a combined $1 billion in Helix Digital Infrastructure, a U.S. company focused on artificial-intelligence infrastructure. Samsung Electronics will contribute $500 million of the total, with the remaining $500 million coming from other affiliates in the conglomerate.
The participating Samsung entities are Samsung Electronics, Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance. The investment positions the group alongside existing strategic and financial backers of Helix.
Role of Samsung affiliates in the partnership
Samsung said the investment will allow it to leverage capabilities distributed across its affiliates to support Helix’s global buildout. These capabilities include semiconductors, cooling systems, data center construction and battery or storage technologies.
By coordinating these businesses, Samsung aims to participate in the development and deployment of large-scale AI infrastructure. The group expects the partnership to help accelerate the global rollout of AI data centers developed by Helix.
Helix’s AI infrastructure strategy
Helix Digital Infrastructure was launched in June with more than $10 billion of capital committed to its strategy. The company concentrates on infrastructure needed for growing AI demand, including hyperscale data centers, power generation, transmission and distribution assets, and fiber-optic networks.
Founding investors in Helix include KKR, Nvidia (NVDA), the Kuwait Investment Authority and U.S. power company Vistra (VST). The firm’s focus spans both computing facilities and the supporting energy and connectivity required for large AI workloads.
Leadership and strategic positioning of Helix
Helix is led by Adam Selipsky, the former CEO of Amazon Web Services. His background reflects the company’s emphasis on large-scale cloud and data infrastructure for AI applications.
With substantial capital at launch and backing from technology, financial and energy-sector investors, Helix is positioned to develop major AI-oriented infrastructure projects. Samsung’s $1 billion commitment adds a large industrial and technology partner to this investor base, tying the platform more closely to hardware, construction and energy-storage expertise.
