Key Points

  • 01SpaceX (SPCX) posts first quarterly profit as a public company
  • 02Q3 revenue jumps 161% to about $14.6 billion
  • 03Super Intelligence becomes SpaceX (SPCX)’s largest revenue segment

SpaceX delivers first profit as a public company

For the third quarter ended Sept. 30, 2026, SpaceX (SPCX) reported revenue of about $14.6 billion, representing 161% year-over-year growth. Net income reached $4.4 billion, marking the company’s first profitable quarter since listing as a public company. Operating income for the period was about $2.79–$2.8 billion, underscoring a sharp improvement in profitability alongside rapid top-line expansion.

The quarter’s results were released as part of SpaceX’s second earnings report since going public. The company did not provide a full-year financial forecast in connection with these figures, but highlighted significant changes in both its business mix and spending profile compared with the prior year.

Super Intelligence emerges as largest business line

SpaceX’s Super Intelligence unit, which houses its artificial intelligence operations, generated roughly $7.56–$7.6 billion in revenue in the quarter. This performance allowed the segment to overtake connectivity as the company’s largest revenue contributor. Super Intelligence posted operating income of $431 million, showing the business is not only expanding rapidly but also contributing positively to earnings.

The company said the Cursor acquisition and new cloud agreements helped drive Super Intelligence revenue growth. During the quarter, SpaceX closed its roughly $60 billion purchase of AI coding startup Cursor, and it referenced share-based compensation tied to the deal. Management also indicated that more than $16.4 billion of quarterly capital expenditures was committed to the AI and Super Intelligence business.

Starlink connectivity continues to expand

While Super Intelligence led revenue, SpaceX’s connectivity operations, largely driven by Starlink, also grew strongly. Connectivity revenue was about $5.25 billion in the third quarter. Starlink’s consumer subscriber base reached roughly 13.6 million, after adding about 1.6 million subscribers during the period.

These gains in Starlink subscribers supported the rise in connectivity revenue, even as the business was surpassed in size by the Super Intelligence segment. The combination of expanding satellite connectivity and AI services formed the backbone of SpaceX’s overall growth in the quarter.

Heavy investment in AI and infrastructure

SpaceX recorded about $19.6 billion in capital expenditures during the third quarter. The company said more than $16.4 billion of this spending was directed to its AI and Super Intelligence operations. It also noted that AI-related spending increased materially compared with the prior year.

The scale of this investment highlights the strategic importance of Super Intelligence within SpaceX’s broader business. Despite the heavy outlays, the company still produced substantial operating and net income, reflecting the profitability of its core AI and connectivity segments in the quarter.

Key Takeaways

  • 01SpaceX’s first profit as a public company was achieved alongside very rapid revenue growth, indicating that scale is now translating into earnings.
  • 02The Super Intelligence segment has become central to SpaceX’s business, both as its largest revenue source and a profitable operation.
  • 03Starlink remains a major contributor, with continued subscriber additions supporting connectivity revenue even as AI takes the lead.
  • 04Large capital expenditures, largely focused on AI, show SpaceX is prioritizing long-term AI infrastructure while still generating strong short-term profits.
