Tesla to lift output at German Grünheide plant

Tesla (TSLA) plans to increase production at its Grünheide factory in Brandenburg in the 2026 financial year, setting up the site for a larger role in its global manufacturing network. The company has set a target to raise output at the plant to as many as 7,500 vehicles per week, equivalent to about 375,000 vehicles per year. This planned ramp-up represents a significant step in scaling the facility beyond its current operations.

The Grünheide factory already ships vehicles to more than 30 markets, and Tesla (TSLA) expects capacity utilisation at the site to rise as output grows. The company intends to expand into additional markets from this location, using the higher production levels to support a broader regional and international footprint. These plans position the Brandenburg plant as a key export hub within Tesla’s European operations.

Alongside higher vehicle output, Tesla plans to expand battery cell manufacturing at the Grünheide site. Integrating more of the battery value chain into the facility is intended to support the increased volume of vehicle production. The enhanced battery capacity is expected to align with the target of up to 7,500 vehicles per week from the plant.

By building out battery cell production at the same location as vehicle assembly, Tesla aims to deepen the level of vertical integration at Grünheide. This integrated setup is designed to strengthen the supply of key components directly to the assembly lines within the factory complex.

To support the higher output and expanded value-chain integration, Tesla plans to create about 3,500 new jobs at the Grünheide site. These roles are linked to both the vehicle production ramp-up and the expansion of battery cell manufacturing. The additional hiring would increase the plant’s workforce and underpin around-the-clock or higher-intensity operations as capacity utilisation rises.

Tesla Manufacturing Brandenburg SE indicates that the outlook for the expansion remains dependent on broader economic conditions. The company notes that escalating geopolitical tensions or supply-chain disruptions could affect the timetable or execution of the planned ramp-up. While the production and employment targets are clearly defined, their realisation is framed as contingent on a stable operating environment.
