easyJet signs fleetwide Starlink Wi‑Fi deal

easyJet (EZJ.L) has agreed to bring SpaceX (SPCX)’s Starlink inflight Wi‑Fi to all of its Airbus (AIRp) aircraft, extending the satellite connectivity service to a major European budget carrier. The airline plans to offer Starlink inflight Wi‑Fi connectivity across its fleet of Airbus (AIRp) jets, aiming to meet rising demand for fast internet access in the air. The move is intended to attract more business and leisure customers by giving them on-board connectivity that more closely resembles what they experience on the ground.

On October 26, 2026, the British low‑cost carrier announced that installation of Starlink equipment will begin across its Airbus A320, A320neo and A321neo fleet in the first half of 2027. The rollout is expected to be completed by early 2028, at which point millions of passengers will be able to access Starlink’s low‑Earth orbit satellite‑powered connectivity while flying with easyJet.

Rollout plan and passenger experience

easyJet said the service will allow customers to stream, game and browse on their own devices during flights. The airline described the partnership as a way to provide more of the options that both business and leisure travellers want when choosing an airline. It did not specify whether access to Starlink Wi‑Fi will be free for passengers.

Starlink is expected to provide fast, reliable connectivity from take‑off to landing, enabling people to work, stream or stay in touch without interruption. easyJet currently operates an active Airbus fleet that includes A320‑200 and A320neo family aircraft, which will form the core of the installation program alongside its A321neo jets.

Strategic shift after earlier cost concerns

Earlier in 2026, after talks with SpaceX (SPCX), easyJet stated that the “economics aren’t quite working for us” in relation to Starlink, and CEO Kenton Jarvis voiced concerns over the cost while praising the product. At the time he said, “When the time is right, we’ll pick the right service.”

With the latest announcement, the airline has decided to proceed with the investment in Starlink across its Airbus fleet. Jarvis said that innovation is part of easyJet’s approach and that partnering with SpaceX to bring Starlink’s high‑speed internet connectivity onboard will enhance the experience provided to millions of customers. He added that giving customers the opportunity to get online in the air will offer greater choice and convenience and is another way the airline aims to make travel easy.

Competitive context among low‑cost carriers

easyJet expects the introduction of Starlink to set its offering apart from rival budget airline Ryanair. The airline said the move will put clear daylight between its onboard service and that of its main low‑cost competitor, whose CEO Michael O’Leary has shown no interest in adopting Starlink and has publicly clashed with Elon Musk over the cost of the service.

Other low‑cost carriers have already signed contracts for Starlink, including Wizz Air, Frontier Airlines and Volaris. In the wider market, United has activated Starlink on more than 635 aircraft, and American Airlines (AAL) plans to begin installations in early 2027, underscoring broader airline adoption of the satellite connectivity platform.

Key Takeaways

  • 01easyJet (EZJ.L)’s decision marks a shift from earlier reservations about Starlink’s economics toward full‑fleet adoption starting in 2027.
  • 02The airline aims to use high‑speed inflight connectivity as a competitive differentiator in Europe’s low‑cost market, particularly against Ryanair.
  • 03Starlink’s growing presence across both full‑service and low‑cost airlines highlights inflight connectivity as a core element of the modern passenger offering.
