Bestway launches Geely brand and three NEVs in Pakistan

Bestway Group has launched Chinese automaker Geely Auto in Pakistan, introducing three new energy vehicles: the compact electric hatchback Geely EX2, the electric SUV Geely EX5 and the plug-in hybrid SUV Geely Starray EM-i. The launch marks Bestway’s formal entry into Pakistan’s automotive sector and positions the group to participate in the market for electric and electrified vehicles. Pricing, booking dates and final specifications for the Pakistan market will be announced through official channels at a later stage.

Speaking at the launch, Bestway stated that Bestway Automotive is the sole authorised distributor of Geely in Pakistan. The group described the move into automotive as a strategic extension of its long-term investment portfolio in the country. The brand launch follows earlier announcements outlining plans to bring Geely models to Pakistan under a broader partnership between Bestway Group and Geely Auto Group.

Imported rollout and local CKD assembly plans

For the initial phase, Geely vehicles will be introduced using imported units while Bestway prepares local assembly operations. The group is developing a 24.71-acre facility at Port Qasim in Karachi for Completely Knocked Down (CKD) assembly, with over 403,000 square feet of covered space and existing capacity to assemble up to 25,000 vehicles a year. Bestway aims to have locally assembled Geely vehicles on Pakistani roads by next year, signalling a shift from pure imports to domestic assembly once the plant is fully readied.

The Port Qasim facility is intended to underpin Geely’s presence in Pakistan by supporting volume assembly and potentially improving availability over time. Local CKD operations are also positioned as part of Bestway’s broader industrial footprint in the country, which already includes cement production and investments in banking and renewable energy.

Dealership network, ownership package and charging

Bestway plans to support Geely’s entry with a nationwide dealership network to provide sales and after-sales coverage. The proposed ownership package includes a vehicle warranty of up to six years or 150,000 kilometres, and an eight-year warranty for the battery and motor. Online booking is planned, alongside financing options through United Bank Limited, in which Bestway holds a stake.

To address charging needs for the new energy vehicles, Bestway intends to roll out a nationwide EV charging network through its subsidiary Bestway Renewable Technologies. This draws on the group’s existing experience in renewables, which includes 115 MW of captive solar capacity operated by Bestway Cement. The charging network is positioned as a key part of the ecosystem required to support adoption of Geely’s electric and plug-in hybrid models.

Bestway and Geely’s wider corporate footprint

Bestway was founded in London in 1976 as a retail business and has since grown into a multinational group with activities in wholesale, cement, banking, renewable energy and other sectors. It now employs over 63,000 people and reports annual revenue of $7.9 billion. In Pakistan, its major assets include Bestway Cement and a stake in United Bank Limited, giving the group an established local presence ahead of its automotive expansion.

Geely Holding Group, founded in 1986, sold approximately 4.12 million vehicles globally in 2025, with 2.29 million of those, or 56%, classified as new energy vehicles. The group’s portfolio includes brands such as Volvo Cars, Polestar, Lotus, Zeekr and Lynk & Co, and it is targeting 6.5 million global vehicle sales by 2030. Geely’s EX5 has also achieved a five-star Euro NCAP rating in 2025 for the tested specification, highlighting safety credentials within the wider lineup as the brand enters Pakistan through Bestway.

Key Takeaways

  • 01Geely (0175.HK)’s Pakistan entry is being driven by Bestway, which is pairing an imported launch with concrete plans for local CKD assembly capacity.
  • 02The planned ownership package, including long warranties, financing and online booking, is designed to support uptake of Geely’s new energy models.
  • 03A proposed nationwide EV charging network tied to Bestway’s renewable operations links the auto rollout with the group’s existing energy footprint and capabilities.
