Passenger jet on airport tarmac symbolizes rising BA aircraft deliveries and growing order backlog

Key Points

  • 01Boeing (BA) delivered 57 jets in September 2026, the year’s peak monthly total
  • 02Monthly deliveries increased from both August 2026 and September 2025
  • 03September’s tally was led by 43 737 MAX jets and a mix of widebodies
  • 04Boeing (BA) logged 165 new orders and expanded its jet backlog to 6,371

September deliveries reach yearly high

Boeing (BA) delivered 57 jets in September 2026, its highest monthly total so far this year. The figure represents an increase from 51 deliveries in August 2026 and 55 in September 2025, highlighting a strengthening delivery pace as the year progresses.

The September performance marks a notable monthly peak within Boeing’s 2026 activity, underscoring rising output across key commercial programs. It also contributes materially to the company’s year-to-date growth in aircraft handovers.

Composition of September’s delivery mix

September’s 57 deliveries were dominated by 43 737 MAX aircraft, underscoring the narrow-body jet’s central role in Boeing’s production profile. Alongside the MAX, the company delivered eight 787s, two 777 freighters and four 767s.

Of the four 767 aircraft delivered, three are earmarked for Boeing’s defense unit to be completed as KC-46 aerial refuelling tankers. This illustrates how commercial platforms continue to feed into defense-related programs through specialized modifications.

Order activity and Turkish Airlines deal

Boeing booked 165 new jet orders in September 2026. A key driver of this inflow was a Turkish Airlines commitment for 100 737 MAX aircraft, reinforcing demand for the narrow-body family.

The strong order intake in the month adds to Boeing’s commercial pipeline and helps support future production planning, particularly for the 737 MAX line that already accounts for the majority of deliveries.

Year-to-date trends and growing backlog

Through the first nine months of 2026, Boeing delivered 475 aircraft, representing an 8% increase compared with the same period a year earlier. Of this total, 363 deliveries were 737 MAX jets, confirming the model’s importance in overall volumes.

The company ended September 2026 with an official backlog of 6,371 jets, up from 6,156 at the end of August 2026. The combination of rising deliveries and a growing backlog points to sustained demand alongside gradual production improvements.

737 MAX production ramp and outlook

Boeing is working to consistently increase 737 MAX output toward a target rate of 47 aircraft per month. CEO Kelly Ortberg has said that achieving this rate has taken longer than expected, indicating ongoing efforts to stabilize and optimize the production system.

The strong September delivery and order figures, together with the expanded backlog, provide a backdrop for the planned 737 MAX ramp-up. Successfully reaching and maintaining the 47-per-month target will be central to meeting customer commitments reflected in the current order book.

Key Takeaways

  • 01Boeing’s highest monthly delivery total of 2026 so far came in September, signalling momentum in its commercial output late in the year.
  • 02The 737 MAX continues to anchor Boeing’s activity, dominating both monthly deliveries and year-to-date totals while drawing large new commitments such as Turkish Airlines’ order.
  • 03A rising backlog alongside higher deliveries suggests sustained demand, but Boeing still faces the operational challenge of reaching its targeted 737 MAX production rate.
